My Devotional Thoughts: An Interview and Book Review
April 02, 2018
Being the Hallmark aficionado that I am, I am always excited when another Hallmark book comes out. While Love Locks was not a beloved movie of mine, I was excited to jump in and savor the magic I knew Cory Martin would bring to this storyline. While I expected nothing less than exemplary, Cory exceeded my expectations, and she was also gracious enough to agree to a quick interview so that my readers and I could appreciate and acknowledge her as a well-respected writer and an inspirational individual...
In this award winning blog, Meg gives her review of Love Sick. "It arrived…and I read it… in one day…and it was everything that I had hoped it would be. She has written the exact type of memoir that I love to read. She is open and honest and raw but does so with a humor that resonates deep within me. This is someone else that gets the reasons to laugh and smile at this stupid disease..."
“You know what I find interesting is if you ask someone when any other major shift occurred in their life, they can tell you a general time frame maybe the season or the month and the year, but ask someone when a doctor first told them they had multiple sclerosis and they remember the exact day. Like many others, it’s been a long windy road to a diagnosis. But the first time a neurologist told me she believed I had MS was October 16th 2007.”
After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2007 at the age of 28, Cory Martin began looking for love in all the wrong places. While trying to put into perspective a disease that she knew little about and balancing her life as an up and coming writer in Hollywood for the television show “The O.C.,” Martin set out on a quest to meet the man of her dreams as a sort of panacea for coming to grips with her MS.
She’s got writing credits on the hit television show, “The OC,” and she’s a young adult novel writer for Scholastic. Her essays have appeared online in XOJane, The Mighty and Elephant Journal, and she is a featured Live Bold, Live Now Hero on HealthCentral. The author of Yoga for Beginners, Cory Martin’s newest book, “Love Sick,” is a memoir about dating life in Hollywood and her personal journey with MS. Here's what I found out in talking to Cory:
An interview where Cory talks writing, yoga and spilling your guts on the page.
"I think the hardest thing for a lot of new writers to see is that the media and even social media makes it look like the writers who have “made it” did so without any struggle. But the life you see is just the sound bite version and the real life of any writer who’s “made it” was not easy."

Faced with turning 30, and finding that all of her dreams of red carpets may have to take a back seat to dealing with her illness, Cory turns to dating with a vengeance, in the hope that “love” will cure all.
Love can leave us heart-broken and vulnerable, but it’s also healing and unifying, and at the deepest levels of our emotional and spiritual experiences, love conquers all. This is the heart beat of Love Sick, a memoir by Cory Martin.
USC Alumni News: Writing offers purpose, connection for alumna diagnosed with MS
May 26, 2016
At 27, Cory Martin had the life any recent college graduate would dream of. She was living in Hollywood, writing scripts for TV — most notably for Fox’s teen drama The O.C. — and had a flourishing social life. Just before she turned 28, everything changed.
...I saw that it was a memoir but to be honest, what made me jump on board to read it was that Cory had written for the hit television show, “The O.C.” which just happens to be one of my all-time favorite shows. So I jumped at the chance to read her memoir. Anyway, as I started reading this book, I was just completely amazed about how honest, real and raw she is.
At first glance, Love Sick might seem a little heavy for a beach read, but don’t be fooled. Sure the premise seems heartbreaking, girl finds out she may have Multiple Sclerosis and documents her struggles with dating while learning more about MS and what her diagnosis means for her life. In reality, Cory Martin effortlessly weaves humor into her story and you won’t be able to help but giggle. You’ll feel for her and her journey, but you’re not left feeling sorry for her, you’ll want to have a drink with her.
Love Sick is a memoir about Cory Martin who attempts to find love after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 28. Ms. Martin shares an excerpt from her book and discuss the difficulties in telling loved ones and new loves about the diagnosis. Ms. Martin also explains how MS helped her tap into her creativity and changed her career forever in this episode of Media Mayhem hosted by Allison Hope Weiner.
Rebekka K Steg: Interview & Review of Love Sick with Cory Martin
May 04, 2016
Love Sick is both funny and thought-provoking. Even if you don’t have a chronic illness, or know anyone who has one, I would highly recommend you read it. Because sooner or later either you, or someone you love will be dealing with chronic illness. It’s one of the more difficult facts of life, but the better we get about talking openly about these things, the better prepared we all are – and the better equipped we will be to deal with it ourselves and support our loved ones.
Hosts Nikhil Korula and Josh Ladue, filling in for Eddie Pence, discuss Love Sick with Cory Martin. Listen in as Cory reads a few excerpts from her book and talks about writing, dating and working in Hollywood.

March 28, 2016
This month, we’re interviewing talented women authors from all over the world and asking them about their writing process. We had the privilege of speaking with Cory Martin about her novel Love Sick. Here’s a glimpse into our conversation.
Have you written a book? What is it about?
I have written five books over the last ten years. My latest book is called Love Sick and it’s my memoir.
“To anyone who’s ever felt unlovable; forget that, you’re lovable.” This is the opening to Cory Martin’s book Love Sick, detailing the story of her romances while coping with a new diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.
We learn about her appearance and character, from her “highlighted blond hair” that falls past her shoulders to her love of poetry and solitude. A picture of her life emerges, from school reports to her studies at Cambridge and subsequent job with a husband-and-wife blockbuster movie team.

Tomorrow is Another Day: Interview with Author Cory Martin
February 28, 2016
Two weeks ago, I reviewed Love Sick, by Cory Martin. Today I have a lovely interview with the author, who was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions. Love Sick is a great read for anyone who has ever struggled with an illness, dating, or trying to find themselves.
One of the most fun things about General Anxiety Disorder (Did I say fun? I mean WORST THING EVER.) is that everything is a crisis. The constant thought stream of worst case scenarios running through my brain can sometimes make me a bit of a hypochondriac–WebMD is not my friend....And then I started Love Sick.
Have you ever wanted to know what it’s like to date in LA? How it feels to date a down and out Englishman or a man who wants you but doesn’t want to sleep with you in Vegas?
Actually Love Sick isn’t just another book about dating and pitfalls to avoid.Love Sick is Cory Martin’s journey. Her journey through a part of life that takes in a diagnosis of MS, an acceptance of life, and what it means to find love.
At 28, Cory Martin thought she had it all – a dream job as a Hollywood writer, her own apartment and a healthy obsession with yoga. When it is a revealed that she has Multiple Sclerosis, she becomes determined to find love before the potentially debilitating disease takes over her life. Navigating illness and dating at the same time, with humour, grace and strength – I anticipate that this will be a very powerful memoir.

Before I say anything else, could we please admire this beautiful cover for a minute? It’s astonishing. Love it love it love it.
As a person who tries to find out what’s going on with my health and well- being I found this book rather comforting. This memoir tells Cory Martin’s life of unexpected struggle with illness at age of 28. She may have Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which even the idea of it turns her life all around....
